India’s ace spinner Ravichandran Ashwin backs Indian players’ experience of playing in England to be helpful during the forthcoming tour of the UK. Team India will play five Test matches against England, starting from August 4, before exchanging punches against New Zealand in the most-awaited World Test Championship Final in Southampton from June 18.

Ashwin mentioned James Anderson will pose a great deal of threat for India’s batting lineup but if batsmen can chip in around Virat Kohli, the momentum will shift in their favour.

“England play good cricket on their pitches and they have shown how good they are in their conditions. James Anderson will make it as difficult as it can be for us. The conditions are key in England, but the experience that this Indian team has should hold us in good stead. If other players chip in and make runs with Virat Kohli around, we stand a good chance to win,” Ashwin told the New Indian Express.

India toured England in 2018 last time and were handed a 4-1 drubbing despite Kohli scoring 593 runs in those five Tests. However, a lot of water has passed under the bridge since then as India recorded back-to-back overseas wins in Australia.

Ashwin raced to his 400th Test wicket during the England Test series in India earlier this year. He is “thoroughly prepared” to take on Poms in the upcoming series.

“Out of the 400-odd wickets, I have performed equally well against right-handers and taken almost an equal number of wickets. The idea of bowling to good players is to enjoy the challenge. I believe in being thoroughly prepared for anybody from No. 1 to No. 11,” he mentioned.

Team India will reach England on June 3 and will serve their isolation period in Hampshire Bowl’s hotel suite that is situated in the stadium premise. India’s first challenge will be against New Zealand in the WTC final before the focus will shift to the five-match Test series against England.
