On Wednesday, Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin joined his new IPL franchise Delhi Capitals dor a live Instagram session. During the conversation, Ashwin recalled his spell against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2011 IPL final. He mentioned how he three-balls set to Gayle is the finest he has ever bowled.
The 33-year-old was part of the Chennai Super Kings squad who registered consecutive titles in 2010 and 2011.

Recalling the match, Ashwin shares how the majority of batsmen think that bowlers react to after being hit for a six. He says that unlike others, he isn’t one of them.
“I remember a similar ball to Jesse Ryder in the same IPL where Jesse stepped out and hit me for a six. The common mistake a lot of batsmen make is that they try and think that a lot of bowlers don’t think and they react to deliveries but I don’t do that,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.
The off-spinner shared how he played the match with the same attacking approach. Ashwin recalled how his instinct in 2011 helped him scalp the wicket of Chris Gayle. In that game, Ashwin dismissed the West Indian power hitter on the fourth ball of the RCB innings.
“If you hit me for a six, I try and stay as attacking as possible, and I knocked over Jesse Ryder with an arm ball the very next ball. Likewise, I imagined something for Chris and it worked. I couldn’t believe it myself. One of the finest three-ball sets that I have bowled in my career,” Ashwin added.

Ashwin bowled a match-winning spell of 3-16 in the 2011 IPL final against RCB. Ashwin’s spell was a major factor that helped Chennai Super Kings win their second IPL trophy. If not for the Corona Virus pandemic, Ashwin would be busy representing Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League right now. However, the BCCI suspended the tournament for an indefinite period due to the pandemic outbreak of Corona.
