Ravichandran Ashwin’s landmark signing with the Sydney Thunder continues to generate buzz across the cricketing world, even as the Indian spin maestro recovers from a knee injury that has ruled him out of the upcoming BBL|15 season. The Thunder management has confirmed that they are working closely with Ashwin to finalise a revised schedule of activities, depending on his recovery timeline.

Sydney Thunder General Manager Trent Copeland expressed his disappointment over Ashwin’s unavailability but assured fans that the relationship with the Indian great remains strong.
“Everyone at Sydney Thunder was devastated to learn of Ash’s knee injury that has ruled him out of BBL|15, and we wish him well in his recovery,” said Copeland. “From our first conversation, Ash’s commitment to Thunder was evident. We hope to have him in our dugout at some stage this season, engaging with fans and helping build a long-term association with the club.”

Copeland added that while Ashwin’s absence is a setback, both Thunder squads — men’s and women’s — remain focused on sustaining their championship ambitions in WBBL|11 and BBL|15. “We can’t wait to get back in front of our fans in Western Sydney for two massive campaigns,” he said.

Ashwin, meanwhile, shared his disappointment and gratitude toward the club and supporters. “I’m gutted to miss BBL|15. My focus now is recovery and coming back stronger,” he said. “If rehab and travel plans allow, I’d love to be around the group later in the season and meet the fans. Wishing both Thunder teams a fantastic year ahead.”
