There is no doubt that veteran Indian all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most popular cricketers in the country. Over the years, Ashwin has made quite a name for himself with his performances with both the bat and the ball. A testament to how popular the 36-year-old has been, the popular Indian quiz show- ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC)’, featured a question regarding Ashwin. Being the question for a whopping sum of INR 25 lakhs, a contestant was asked who is the only Indian player to dismiss both father and son in Test cricket.

The four options provided were all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja, and Ravichandran Ashwin, along with pacers Ishant Sharma and Mohammad Shami, respectively. It remains to be seen whether the contestant answered the question correctly, but cricket fanatics across the globe would know that Ashwin is the only Indian player to dismiss a father-son duo in Test cricket.

Recently, when India took on the West Indies in a multi-format series in their backyard, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Tagenarine Chanderpaul during the two-match Test series between the West Indies and India. Interestingly enough, the legendary off-spinner had previously dismissed Tagenarine’s father, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, back in 2011, during his Test debut in Delhi.

Being the only Indian player to take the wicket of a father-son duo, there are only a few players who have achieved this feat during their careers. Notably, South Africa’s Simon Harmer, Australian pacer Mitchell Starc, Pakistan’s sultan of swing, Wasim Akram, and England’s Ian Botham are some notable players with whom Ashwin shares the elite club.

Speaking of India’s recently concluded Test series against the West Indies, it is safe to say that Ravichandran Ashwin was the star of the show. The 36-year-old took 12 wickets across two innings in the first Test to propel India to a win and followed it up with 56 runs and three wickets in the second Test, which was drawn as India won the two-match affair by 0-1.

It is also worth noting that, despite his exceptional international record, Ashwin missed out on the 17-man Indian squad that will be travelling to Sri Lanka for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Despite the snub, the 36-year-old came forward to support the selector’s decision and also requested everyone to stop questioning the abilities of other players playing for Team India.
