Ravichandran Ashwin continues to prove that his cricketing instincts remain razor-sharp, even after stepping away from international cricket. The veteran spinner, now captaining the Dindigul Dragons in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025, pulled off a moment of brilliance during Qualifier 2 against Chepauk Super Gillies.

In a high-pressure game with a spot in the final on the line, Ashwin executed a sensational run-out that drew first blood for the Dragons. The moment came when CSG opener Mokit Hariharan attempted a risky single. Dinesh H fired in a sharp throw from the field, which Ashwin coolly collected one-handed before swiftly dismantling the stumps.

The dismissal not only gave Dindigul a crucial early breakthrough but also set the tone for their eventual triumph over the table-toppers, securing their place in the final. Though retired from the international arena, Ashwin remains a key figure in domestic and franchise cricket.

Leading from the front in TNPL 2025, he has transformed himself into a versatile asset—opening the batting and contributing with the ball. With 680 runs in 26 innings at an average of 28.33 and a strike rate of 141.3, including five fifties, Ashwin’s batting resurgence has been a storyline of its own. On the bowling front, he has 33 wickets in the league, though only three have come this season.

Ashwin’s IPL legacy is equally impressive. Since debuting for Chennai Super Kings in 2008, he has represented five franchises—CSK, Rising Pune Supergiant, Kings XI Punjab, Delhi Capitals, and Rajasthan Royals—scalping 187 wickets and contributing 833 runs.

Amid swirling rumors that Chennai Super Kings are eyeing Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson as a potential successor to MS Dhoni, some reports suggest that Ashwin or Ravindra Jadeja could be part of a possible trade. However, no official word has emerged, leaving the speculation as just that—for now.

Ashwin’s presence, both as a tactician and performer, continues to make headlines, whether it’s through match-winning moments or off-field intrigue.
