Just as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were hoping to carry momentum into the IPL 2025 playoffs, their camp has been rattled by yet another injury concern—this time to Australian finisher Tim David. During their 42-run defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium, David appeared to injure his hamstring while attempting a boundary save in the final over of SRH’s innings.

David sprinted across from square leg but pulled up sharply, clutching his leg. He was immediately taken off the field and didn’t return to complete the remaining five deliveries of the over. Although he did walk out to bat during the run chase, his injury was evident. He managed just 1 run off 5 deliveries as RCB were bowled out for 189 while chasing SRH’s imposing 232.

RCB, already qualified for the playoffs, have been plagued by a growing injury list. Captain Rajat Patidar is nursing a hand injury, Devdutt Padikkal has been ruled out with a hamstring issue, and Phil Salt recently recovered from an illness.

Wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma led the team against SRH, with Patidar coming in as an impact sub. Despite Salt’s brief absence, the English opener made a powerful return with a quickfire 62 from 32 balls.

Padikkal’s absence has been particularly felt—he amassed 247 runs in 10 innings this season at a strike rate of 150.60 before being ruled out. RCB signed Mayank Agarwal as his replacement. Additionally, young talent Jacob Bethell will miss the playoffs due to England duties, and New Zealand’s Tim Seifert has been brought in as his substitute.
The playoff-bound RCB now face a crucial test of depth and fitness as they gear up for their final league game against Lucknow Super Giants, once again at the Ekana Stadium, on Tuesday.
