A lot was expected from India’s new youth sensation Shafali Verma who was all set to play her first World Cup fixture in the T 20 world cup held in Australia. The young opener did not disappoint and was at her best during the T20 World Cup. With captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana not in the best of form, The 16-year old took charge and made sure the Indian team has a good start. Explosive and aggressive in her batting, the right-hander hit some stunning sixes in the tournament as well.

On Monday, the ICC Twitter handle shared a video of Shafali Verma stunning sixes that she hit throughout he T 20 World Cup. During the tournament, the young right-hander became the joint record holder for hitting the maximum number of sixes. Shafali Verma cleared the fence 9 times throughout the World Cup. the young star had donned the Indian jersey for the first time in 2019 in her debut match against South Africa.

With such a small stint at the international stage, the young  Shafali Verma has managed to hit more than 50 boundaries and 20 sixes. The younger opener also broke India’s legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar’s 30-year-old record of being the youngest Indian to score an international fifty. Shafali Verma achieved this feat a few months ago when she played the West Indies aged 15 years and 285 days. Shafali has also managed to score 487 runs at an incredible strike of 146.24 in the 19 games the right-hander has played for India.  She averages around 27 runs per innings.

At the young age of 16, Shafali has already won the player of the match award. She received the prize for her fantastic and career-best innings of 73 runs. In her career-best innings, Shafali hit six boundaries and four maximums to claim the player of the match award.

India rode on Shafali’s explosive batting along wth the Indian spinners and entered the final of the T 20 World Cup. Despite all her efforts, Shafali could help deliver the World Cup final for India as the subcontinent team lost to hosts Australia in the final of the Women’s T20 World Cup in Melbourne.
