Reports claim Gary Kirsten is favourite for the next RCB coach

The Indian Premier League (IPL) team Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has just sacked their head coach Daniel Vettori and they are searching for the new head coach. According to some reports, the former World Cup winning Indian cricket team coach Gary Kirsten is the favourite to take the role.

The three-time IPL runners-up RCB had a poor performance in IPL 2018. The franchise, who had finished at the last position (eighth position) in IPL 2017, started awfully in IPL 2018 and finished at the sixth position.

In IPL 2018, RCB won only two games in the first seven matches. Despite later they returned to the form as they won four out of their last seven games (including winning three out of last four games), RCB just failed to qualify for the playoffs.

Due to team’s poor performances in IPL 2018, head coach Daniel Vettori has been sacked from his role along with the batting and fielding coach Trent Woodhill and bowling coach Andrew McDonald, according to the reports of Bangalore Mirror. The newspaper further added that the bowling coach Ashish Nehra has remained on his role.

While the new coach-team of RCB has been expected to be announced soon, Bangalore Mirror believes that Gary Kirsten is the favourite to become the new head coach of the team. In IPL 2018, Kirsten served as batting consultant for RCB.

The former South African cricketer Kirsten was the former head coach of Indian cricket team and South African cricket team. Under his coaching, MS Dhoni-led Indian cricket team won the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup.

In 2014 and 2015 IPL season, Kirsten was the head coach of Delhi Daredevils. However, in both seasons, the Delhi franchise disappointed by finishing at the eighth (last position) and seventh positions respectively.

According to Bangalore Mirror, there is another speculation which is the former Indian cricketer and present Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar is in the favourite line to become the head coach of RCB. However, he would be in danger in the conflict of interest clause if he accepts the RCB head coach role at present.
