Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting will be seen in a new role with a new franchise in the Indian Premier League 2018. The least successful side of the competition Delhi Daredevils has appointed him as their head coach in order to taste success.

Ponting has coached Mumbai Indians earlier but had never been in touch with Delhi based team. Apart from coaching, he was Mumbai’s skipper during their first title-winning campaign but gave the reins to Rohit Sharma and sit on the bench keeping a bad form in mind.

Delhi is the only team with no IPL final among the franchise who has featured in all season. Their best run was last to the playoff leg, where they are yet to win a game.

DD retained Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer and Chris Morris for upcoming seasons before the big auction on January 27-28 in Bengaluru.
