Recently, the former Indian cricketer WV Raman has been appointed as the head coach of Indian women’s cricket team. However, his position is in trouble after the rift is growing up between the two members of the Committee of Administrators (CoA) – Diana Edulji and the chief Vinod Rai.

The rift has been running in this matter since Ramesh Powar’s term ended as the head coach of Indian women’s cricket team. He wasn’t offered a contract extension due to the rift with Mithali Raj during the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20 in the West Indies. However, many of the women cricketers and BCCI members defended Powar, including Diana Edulji, and accused Vinod Rai of taking a unilateral decision on that matter.

Edulji was also against to form a new Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to select the head coach of Indian women’s cricket team. While Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman were the original CAC members till the 2018 ICC Women’s World T20, Kapil Dev, Shanta Rangaswamy and Anshuman Gaekwad are the new CAC members who have chosen WV Raman as the head coach.

Diana Edulji wanted that the original CAC members should take the responsibility to select the head coach of the women’s cricket team.

Later, Santosh Rangnekar, the BCCI Chief Financial Officer, wrote to CoA for approval of Raman’s professional fees. When Rai requested Edulji to clear that contract, she wrote an email to ask the reason for hurry.

According to TOI, Edulji wrote, “The CEO & yourself in the past had changed/extended timelines for an individual who eventually became the head coach of men’s team, then how is it that you have suddenly found it difficult to give time to CAC which comprises of great legends the country has known (Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman) or extend the contract of the coach Ramesh Powar. Please recall the time when the men’s team went without a coach to West Indies and late Doc Sridhar was asked to be with the team, as timelines were extended and CAC was allowed to complete its process of selecting a coach.

“If the CEO, CFO and GM Cricket Operations in charge of women’s cricket do issue a new contract, then they will be liable for financial damages to the BCCI.”

Later, in that mail, Edulji asked Rai to appoint Raman as the interim head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team till the original CAC decides the head coach.
