Kolkata Knight Riders’ seasoned spinner Sunil Narine continued to keep things tight with the ball during their IPL 2025 clash against Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens. While he maintained control over the run flow with his trademark tight lines and clever variations, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the West Indian star—especially when a fielding lapse caught the eye of teammate Rinku Singh.

Narine, known for his economy rather than wicket-taking this season, once again delivered a tidy spell. Though he didn’t pick up any scalps in this particular outing, he effectively applied pressure from one end, keeping the Titans batters in check. However, his effort in the field briefly undid some of that good work.
The incident occurred in the 10th over when Narine bowled to Gujarat skipper Shubman Gill, who pushed the ball into the midwicket region and called for a quick couple. Narine jogged toward the ball but abruptly slowed down, appearing to give up on the chase. That left Rinku Singh—stationed deep in the field—to sprint in and complete the job.

Clearly annoyed by Narine’s lack of urgency, Rinku threw the ball in and sent a cold glare his teammate’s way before returning to his fielding position. The moment quickly went viral, highlighting the passion and intensity among the KKR players.

At the toss earlier, KKR’s stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane revealed their decision to bowl first. “It looked slightly dry, and this ground is generally good for chasing,” he said. Rahane acknowledged the team’s position at seventh on the table but stressed the collective hunger to improve. He also backed the middle order, saying positions 5 to 7 are often tricky but could prove match-winning when they click. KKR made two changes—bringing in Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Moeen Ali.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill, leading the Gujarat Titans, said he was confident in his team’s ability to post a competitive total. “There’s no dew expected, and our bowlers have been fantastic. Everyone’s chipping in, and Rashid Khan’s presence—with his energy and skillset—has been a massive asset,” Gill stated.
With both sides bringing intensity and tactical depth, fans at Eden Gardens were treated to a gripping mid-season showdown.
