The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) returned to Kolkata on Tuesday after a dramatic return flight from Lucknow. The team, currently enjoying a winning streak, will face Mumbai Indians at the Eden Gardens later this week. This minor inconvenience comes amidst KKR’s impressive run in the IPL, having secured eight wins in eleven matches. Despite his team’s success, Rinku Singh might be feeling a tinge of disappointment. Though he missed out on a spot in the main 15-member T20 World Cup squad, he was selected as a reserve player alongside Shubman Gill, Avesh Khan, and Khaleel Ahmed.

Rinku Singh’s limited opportunities with KKR this season (148 runs at a strike rate of 145+) might have hampered his chances of a permanent place. Sunil Narine has emerged as the true star for KKR this season. The spin-bowling all-rounder has consistently delivered for the Shreyas Iyer-led team.

In his eleven appearances, Narine has amassed a staggering 461 runs at an average of 41.90 and a blistering strike rate of 183.67, currently sitting at number three in the Orange Cap race. KKR’s dominance was evident in their last match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Sunil Narine’s explosive knock of 81 runs off just 39 balls, including six fours and seven sixes, laid the foundation for a formidable total of 235 runs. LSG’s batting unit faltered in response, with only KL Rahul and Marcus Stoinis managing scores above 20 runs. Harshit Rana and Varun Chakravarthy’s three-wicket hauls each restricted LSG to a meager 137 runs, securing a comfortable victory for KKR.
