A very few cricket fans remember that former Indian skipper, Sourav Ganguly played one of his best ODI knocks at Sharjah. During the final of the Coca-Cola Champions Trophy against Zimbabwe in 1998, India managed to chase down 197 without losing a wicket, Ganguly hit three sixes in the match — all three against the same bowler (Grant Flower), all three in the same over (21st) and all three landing on the roof.  On Tuesday, Delhi Capitals paid tribute to Ganguly’s knock by posting a video of another left-hander, Rishabh Pant, smashing sixes at will during a net session in Sharjah.

Captioning video of Pant smashing the bowlers in the nets, Delhi Capitals wrote: “An Indian southpaw smashing sixes off-spinners at will in Sharjah. Well, where have we heard that before?”

If the Delhi Capitals video is anything to go by, then bowlers in the IPL 2020, especially spinners, must be at their best to put a brake on Pant’s run-scoring. The young wicket-keeper batsman, who in recent times has come in for some stick due to some poor performances with Team India, will be raring to prove a point and make IPL 2020 his own.

The southpaw has already shown his six-hitting prowess in previous seasons of the IPL and would be hoping to take it up a notch this year. Rishabh Pant has performed brilliantly with the bat in the two previous seasons.

Last season, Rishabh had amassed as many as 488 runs in 16 games, averaging 37.53 and a strike rate of 162.66 to go with it. The year previous to that he was at his destructive best when he smashed 684 runs at an average of 52.61 and a strike 173.60, including a whirlwind knock of 128 not out.
