Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant issued a heartfelt apology to the franchise’s supporters after another disappointing Indian Premier League season ended without a playoff qualification. Speaking during the toss ahead of LSG’s final IPL 2026 league match against Punjab Kings at the Ekana Stadium on Saturday, Pant admitted the team had failed to live up to expectations and thanked fans for continuing to support them throughout a difficult campaign.

IPL 2026 began with massive expectations for Lucknow after the franchise revamped its squad following last season’s seventh-place finish. With experienced names, a fully fit pace attack, and the addition of Mohammed Shami, LSG were expected to challenge strongly for a playoff spot. However, inconsistent performances, poor form from senior players, and tactical errors eventually derailed their campaign.

Much of the spotlight remained on captain Rishabh Pant and explosive batter Nicholas Pooran, both of whom struggled to deliver consistently during crucial phases of the season. Frequent changes in the batting order and a damaging six-match losing streak midway through the tournament left LSG stuck near the bottom of the IPL 2026 points table.

Ahead of the clash against Punjab Kings, Pant addressed the home crowd and apologised for the team’s underwhelming performances. “We just want to say sorry to our fans. They’ve come here to support us from throughout UP, so the least we can do today is give our 200 percent,” Rishabh Pant said at the toss after PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl first.

Despite winning a couple of games towards the latter half of the season, Lucknow never truly recovered from their poor run earlier in the tournament. Their performances at the Ekana Stadium also remained a major concern, with several home defeats hurting their playoff chances badly.

LSG now head into their final game looking to salvage some pride and avoid finishing near the bottom of the standings. At the same time, they also have an opportunity to dent Punjab Kings’ playoff hopes, with PBKS desperately searching for a win to stay alive in the qualification race.

For Pant and Lucknow, IPL 2026 has ultimately been a season filled with missed opportunities, inconsistency, and unanswered questions heading into the next campaign.
