Rishabh Pant To Miss The Rajkot ODI Due To Concussion?

The young Indian wicket-keeper batsman, Rishabh Pant has been diagnosed with a concussion during the first ODI of the three-match series against Australia. As a result of that, he didn’t travel with the Indian team to Rajkot for the second ODI against Australia. Pant did not take the field for the second half of the first ODI in Mumbai on Tuesday after getting hit on the helmet ion the bowl he got out. He is currently under observation.

Describing the same, one of the sources of PTI in BCCI said, “Rishabh Pant will not be traveling to Rajkot today with other members. He will join the team later. Normally 24 hours is the time to keep someone who has suffered concussion under observation.”

There is still no clarity on whether he will be available for selection or rested in the next game. The 22-year-old was struck on the helmet by a Pat Cummins bouncer in the 44th over of India’s innings, which also resulted in his wicket. The injury forced KL Rahul to wear the wicket-keeping gloves when India came out to field. On Tuesday night, the BCCI said in a statement that Pant is under observation and he would be monitored overnight.

Pant went on to score 28 runs in just 33 balls during India’s 255 all out after being sent in to bat by Australia. While Rahul kept wickets, Manish Pandey came in as an on-field replacement for Pant.

After being asked to bat, India made a slow start to their innings after losing Rohit Sharma early. Kohli’s idea to step down the order also did not pay off as he was dismissed after scoring just 16 runs by Adam Zampa. At a moment, India did not look like crossing the 250-run mark, however, just before Shreyas Iyer’s rare failure lead to Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja rebuilding the innings in the 33rd over. The duo did well to stitch a 49-run partnership for the 6th wicket. But Pat Cummins came back for a spell to dismiss Pant and soon Jadeja fell.

Mitchell Starc was the pick of the bowlers as he returning with impressive figures of 3/56 as Cummins and Kane Richardson picked a couple of wickets each.
