Rishabh Pant Receives A Fine Of INR 12 Lakhs Due To Slow Overate

While Delhi Capitals (DC) is witnessing a horrifying run in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, skipper Rishabh Pant was received a hefty fine of INR 12 lakh for not maintaining the required over-rate in the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday. With this being Pant’s first offense, he was the only one to be penalized but the sanctions could be severe if the offense is repeated.

Issuing a statement on the official website, IPL confirmed the penalty imposed on the DC skipper, Rishabh Pant. The statement read: “The Delhi Capitals have been fined after they maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on April 7.”

It further added, “As it was the team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offenses, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant was fined INR 12 lakhs.”

According to the rules, if Rishabh Pant repeats the offense of not maintaining the required over-rate in another match featuring the Delhi Capitals, he would be handed an INR 24 lakh fine while 10 other players of the team will also see six lakhs or 25% of their match fees (depending on which amount is lesser) being deducted from their pockets.

In case, Rishabh Pant repeats the offense for the third time, he would not only be fined 30% of his match fees, but would also have to then face a match ban. Also, the other 10 players would be fined 12 lakhs or 50% of their match fees (depending on which amount is lesser).

As for the match between Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Pant’s men ended up on the losing side after KL Rahul & Co. secured a thrilling 6-wicket victory. The result sees Delhi being placed 7th in the points table with just one win in three games. Lucknow, on the other hand, are second with three wins in four.
