Rishabh Pant’s rough patch with the bat continued in the IPL 2025 as he failed to deliver in a high-stakes encounter against Punjab Kings at the scenic Dharamsala stadium. Leading the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Pant was expected to anchor the innings in a mammoth chase of 237 runs, but the left-hander faltered yet again.

Coming in at number four after the early departure of two key batters, Rishabh Pant had the perfect stage to script a captain’s knock. With LSG struggling at 16/2 and soon 27/3, fans were hopeful that the skipper would step up. He began with a flash of brilliance, skipping down the track and smashing Marco Jansen for a towering six that gave the LSG camp a glimmer of hope.

However, the promise fizzled out quickly. Despite the early intent, Rishabh Pant seemed out of rhythm. The Punjab Kings bowlers maintained tight lines and didn’t allow him to settle. He looked scratchy during his brief stay and struggled to find timing on a tricky surface.

Rishabh Pant’s innings came to a disappointing end in the 8th over when Azmatullah Omarzai dismissed him. In an uncharacteristic moment, Pant charged down the track looking for a big shot, but lost control completely — both of the ball and his bat, which flew towards square leg. His attempted loft lacked power and direction, landing safely in the hands of Shashank Singh at sweeper cover.

As Pant trudged back, visibly dejected and muttering to himself, the camera panned to LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka in the stands. His reaction — a mix of shock and frustration — captured the emotions of every LSG supporter. In a season where Pant was expected to lead from the front, this latest failure will only raise more questions about his form and mindset under pressure.
