Rishabh Pant’s torrid IPL 2025 campaign took another frustrating turn during Lucknow Super Giants’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Already under scrutiny for his inconsistent batting and tactical decisions, Pant made matters worse with a poor review call that left fans and commentators bewildered.

After promoting himself to No. 3 following a blistering opening partnership between Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram, Pant failed to make an impact yet again, managing just 7 runs off 6 balls before being dismissed by Eshan Malinga. His dismissal was followed by a visibly disappointed reaction from team owner Sanjiv Goenka, who was caught on camera walking away in frustration.

But it wasn’t just his bat that let Pant down—his captaincy also came under the scanner. In the third over of SRH’s chase, Pant opted for a Decision Review System (DRS) appeal that bordered on desperation. The delivery in question was a short one, drifting down the leg side. Ishan Kishan, expecting a wide, pulled away, only to find the umpire unmoved. At that very moment, Pant went up for a caught-behind appeal.
What followed was a moment of chaos. While Kishan looked to signal for a wide, Pant persisted in urging the umpire to recognise his DRS request. After some animated discussions, the umpire gave in, and the review was taken. Replays, however, confirmed there was no edge and the ball had simply brushed past the leg side harmlessly, resulting in a wasted DRS.

In a season where both his form and decision-making have drawn criticism, this miscalculated review only added to Pant’s woes. With LSG’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread, the skipper will need to regroup quickly, both as a batter and a leader.
