The veteran Indian batter, Robin Uthappa lashed out at Virat Kohli’s critics, saying it’s unfair to question the former Indian skipper’s place in the squad in between high-profile series. Uthappa said no one told Virat Kohli how to play when he was scoring centuries at will and once, he is able to acknowledge and sort out his problems. Robin Uthappa said Virat Kohli will end up scoring 30-35 more international centuries and his match-winning ability for the senior national team is unquestionable.
Speaking on ShareChat’s Audio Chatroom session, Robin Uthappa said, “When he (Virat Kohli) was scoring runs, when he was hitting hundred after hundred, nobody said he should play like this or that. Now, I don’t think we have any right to tell him how to play. He has scored 70 centuries thanks to his own abilities and he will score another 30 or 35 also on his own abilities.”

He further added, “We need to just leave him alone and let him play cricket. He knows what works best for him and I believe once he acknowledges his problem, he will be able to sort it out on his own. All we need to do is give him space to be himself.”
Meanwhile, Robin Uthappa said it’s up to Kohli to decide whether he needs to take a rest or wants to return to play competitive cricket and urged the stalwart’s critics to stop questioning his place in the side.
Questions are being asked of Virat Kohli’s place in the T20I side as the likes of Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda have been scoring runs at a brisk pace. While Hooda hit a century against Ireland in June, Suryakumar delivered big with a match-winning hundred against England earlier this month. Kohli’s inability to get going from the word go has been a cause of concern, especially as India is looking to play a more aggressive brand of cricket with the bat in T20 cricket.

Elaborating the same, “If he feels it is fit for him to take a break, then he can take a break. If he feels he has to play a certain series or tournament, allow him to play. Don’t bring his spot into question. He is a match-winner, one of the proven match-winners and he is the best in the world. We have no right and authority or no ground to stand on and question his ability to win matches or question his position in our team.”.
