The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Rohit Sharma welcomed Yuvraj Singh to the city of heroics after the franchise bought him for the base price of ₹1 crore in the IPL 2019 Auction in Jaipur on Tuesday. Yuvraj was unsold in the first round of bidding before he was brought back later in the evening.
Yuvraj had a forgettable outing in the 2018 IPL, managing only 65 runs from eight games for Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). He has not played for India since the ODI series in West Indies in 2017 and many wondered if he would even find a bidder in the IPL 2019 auction.
However, Yuvraj was snapped up by three-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI), who themselves had a poor season in 2018. They lost eight out of their 14 matches and finished fifth – thus failing to qualify for the playoffs.

Rohit and Yuvraj are known to be close friends. In fact, when Sharma wished the latter on his birthday, Yuvi replied with a cheeky remark in connection to Rohit Sharma’s rash shot in the first innings of the Adelaide Oval Test.
And next time u get out on 37 il catch hold of your neck like this again ! 🤪😄

The MI skipper is understandably thrilled with Yuvraj’s inclusion in their squad. Yuvraj had a poor time in the middle last year but he looks fitter now and can chip in with the ball too if required for the team.
Apart from the fact that the Wankhede Stadium is the home ground of MI, the venue also holds a special place in Yuvraj Singh’s heart. In 2011, Yuvraj stood at the non-striker’s end when MS Dhoni hit a six to win India their second World Cup. Yuvraj was named man-of-the-series for his all-around performance.

Mumbai Indians owner Akash Ambani said getting Yuvraj Singh for ₹1 crore was the biggest steal in the history of IPL auctions. He also said, Yuvi, The story goes back to not this auction but we have been trying for him for ages. We’ve just not had the opportunity to have him and we are really happy to him back. I think he has done fantastically well in his career whether it was for India and now, for IPL. So we are looking for that experience to be added to our squad.”
