Rohit Sharma produced a sensational batting display in the second ODI against the West Indies at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, smashing a brilliant century while leading India’s mammoth chase of 406 runs. The veteran opener answered questions over his form and age with another commanding performance at the top of the order.
Rohit brought up his 12,000 ODI runs during his innings, becoming only the third Indian batter to reach the landmark. He needed 73 runs before the match to achieve the milestone and made sure his latest achievement came alongside a memorable century. After missing out on a hundred despite a promising start in the first ODI, Rohit made no mistake this time.
The right-hander reached his 35th ODI century from just 72 balls, completing his 52nd international hundred with a single. He celebrated the milestone with his trademark enthusiasm, jumping in delight before punching the air as the Guwahati crowd erupted. His innings included 10 fours and six sixes, making it the second-fastest ODI century of his career.

The century also saw Rohit create history. At 39 years and 153 days, he became the oldest Indian batter to score an ODI century in India, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s previous record of 38 years and 113 days. Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar also feature on the list of India’s oldest ODI centurions on home soil.

Rohit also became the second-fastest batter to reach 12,000 ODI runs, behind Virat Kohli, who achieved the feat in 282 innings. His latest performance further strengthens his recent run of form, with two centuries coming in his last three ODI innings.

During the chase, Rohit shared a remarkable 255-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill, who also completed a century. Rohit was eventually dismissed for 101, but his contribution put India firmly in control.
West Indies had posted 405/7 after centuries from John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo. India were 317/1 while chasing, with Gill and Kohli at the crease and 90 runs still required for victory.
