Star cricketer Rohit Sharma recently voiced his displeasure on the microblogging platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) regarding the official broadcaster of IPL 2024. Rohit criticized the broadcaster for recording and airing his private conversations with friends and colleagues, despite his explicit requests to avoid doing so. This breach of privacy, according to Rohit, was broadcast multiple times across various network channels.

“The lives of cricketers have become so intrusive that cameras are now recording every step and conversation we have in privacy with our friends and colleagues, whether at training or on match days. Despite asking Star Sports to not record my conversations, they did so and aired them, which is a breach of privacy,” the 37-year-old lamented on social media.

He added, “The need to get exclusive content, focused only on views and engagement, will one day break the trust between fans, cricketers, and cricket. Let better sense prevail.”

As the Mumbai Indians concluded their disappointing campaign in IPL 2024, speculation arose among fans about the future of their former skipper with the franchise. Rohit further fueled these rumours by posting a picture of Mumbai Indians fans, expressing his gratitude for their unwavering support during their last league stage game against the Lucknow Super Giants, despite a lacklustre season.

Some netizens believe this could signify the end of Rohit’s association with the Men in Blue & Gold, especially amidst reports of his dissatisfaction with Hardik Pandya’s leadership. If these rumours hold any truth, the legendary cricketer might be considering a move to another franchise.

Rohit’s public discontent with the broadcaster and the swirling rumours about his future underscores the pressures and invasions of privacy faced by modern cricketers. His message serves as a reminder of the importance of respecting personal boundaries, even in a sport as passionately followed as cricket.
