Team India is locking horns with Sri Lanka in the series opener of the three-match ODI series at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The Indian skipper, Rohit Sharma was seen in full form in the game he played a captain’s knock of 67-balls 83 on Tuesday in his comeback match. India has dominated the proceedings in the first ODI so far by amassing as many as 373 runs in the opening game of the series.

Earlier in the game the Sri Lanka skipper, Dasun Shanaka won the toss and asked the hosts to bat first owing to the certain chances of dew later in the game. The Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both scored half-centuries while Virat Kohli scored a smashing century to help the team to register a score of 370+.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman were on fire in the powerplay overs and both hit half-centuries as they added 143 runs for the first wicket inside 20 overs. Gill was dismissed after scoring 70 in 60 balls with 11 fours, while Rohit Sharma slammed his half-century with the help of 9 fours and 3 sixes.

Shubman Gill fell LBW to Dasun Shanaka, while Rohit Sharma became the maiden ODI victim of Dilshan Madushanka, who is making his debut for Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, when Rohit Sharma reached his half-century, he looked at the sky and mouthed a few words while pointing his bat toward the sky. Many fans claimed that it was for his pet dog who unfortunately took his last breathe on the eve of the game.

On the other hand, Rohit’s wife Ritika had shared a post on Instagram sharing the sad news of their pet’s passing. It had photos of the dog with family members including Rohit hugging the pooch.

She wrote: “Yesterday was by far the hardest day of our lives. We said goodbye the love of our lives. You have been the best furbaby anyone could ever have. My first love, my first baby, the most gently furball that ever lived. Until we meet again. Our lives will always have a little less Magic in it.”
