Indian batsman Rohit Sharma finally ended his run-drought with a brilliant century in the fifth ODI against the host South Africa. Suffering off form with the bat for more than a month, Rohit clinched a brilliant hundred in the important encounter.
In the day-night encounter between the hosts South Africa and the visitors India at the St George’s Park (Port Elizabeth), South Africa sent the visitors to bat first after winning the toss. India secured a decent start before the opener Shikhar Dhawan departed for 34 runs.
Along with the in-form skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit produced a 100+ partnership for the second wicket. Soon after, Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane were sent back to the pavilion through the run-out.

Despite the other top-order dismissals, the Mumbai batsman was steady on the other side. Rohit completed his half-century in run-a-ball (50 runs off 50 balls) with the help of 6 fours and 2 sixes. He took 57 more deliveries to achieve his century (100 runs off 107 balls) while he added 4 more fours and 2 more sixes.

After scoring 115 runs off 126 balls (11 fours and 4 sixes), Rohit was dismissed by the hosts’ pacer Lungi Ngidi through caught behind to the wicketkeeper. During that dismissal moment, India was on 236/4 in 42.2 overs.

India is currently leading the six-match ODI series by 1-3 margin. If they won this ODI, then they will clinch the ODI series in South Africa for the first time.
Before this innings, Rohit was running off-form in this whole tour. In the ongoing South Africa tour, He scored only 78 runs (average 19.50) in the first two Test of the three-match Test series, while the right-handed opening batsman only managed to score 40 runs (average 10) in the first four ODIs. In the previous ODIs of this series, Rohit scored 20, 15, 0 and 5 runs.
