Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma recently shed light on his future plans with the national team. Amid widespread speculations about his potential retirement from T20 Internationals following the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, recent reports suggested otherwise. Sharma, however, expressed his keenness to continue representing India across formats for several more years.
Currently immersed in the action-packed IPL 2024 with Mumbai Indians (MI), Sharma’s immediate focus remains on the upcoming T20 World Cup, slated to be held in the West Indies and USA in June. The Men in Blue’s ardent quest for an ICC title looms large, with the 37-year-old harboring hopes of ending the prolonged drought as captain.
Despite coming close as runners-up in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the WTC Final earlier, Sharma remains optimistic about finally clinching the coveted T20 trophy. Reflecting on his illustrious international journey, which commenced at a tender age, Sharma, fondly known as the Hitman, expressed his sentiments.

Additionally, Sharma discussed the profound honour of leading his nation, a role he never envisaged early in his career. He acknowledged that captaining the national team, especially in a cricket-crazed nation like India, stands as the pinnacle of his career.
“Leading your country is the ultimate honor, and I never imagined I would one day captain the team. But as they say, good things happen to good people,” Sharma reflected.
Discussing his vision for Indian cricket post his appointment as captain, Rohit Sharma emphasized the importance of collective team effort over personal milestones.
“When I assumed the role of India Captain, my primary goal was to align everyone’s focus towards a common objective. Team sport is not about individual achievements; it’s about our collective contribution towards winning trophies,” Rohit Sharma emphasized.
