After the match, Sharma took selfies with some fans and then spotted a young boy in the crowd holding a placard that read, “Rohit Sir, please give me your shoes.” Sharma smiled and walked over to the boy, who was wearing an India jersey and had his face painted in the colors of the tricolor.

Sharma took off his shoes and handed them to the boy, who was overjoyed. The boy gave Sharma a big hug and thanked him repeatedly. The gesture was captured on camera and went viral on social media, with many fans praising Sharma’s humility and kindness.

 

Sharma’s gift to the young fan was just the icing on the cake for a perfect day for India. They had earlier put on a dominant batting performance to score 357 for 8 in their 50 overs. Shubman Gill (92), Virat Kohli (88), and Shreyas Iyer (82) all scored half-centuries, and Dilshan Madushanka was the pick of the Sri Lankan bowlers with five wickets.

In the second innings, India’s bowlers bowled Sri Lanka out for just 55 runs, the lowest total in ODI World Cup history.
