There was a lot of buzz in the Indian cricketing fraternity when India’s limited-overs opener Rohit Sharma was excluded from the Test squad for the West Indies series. His heroics in ODIs and T20Is were expected to earn him a Test recall but he was dropped from the Test squad for West Indies Tests. The move surprised many, including the greats like Sourav Ganguly and Harbhajan Singh. A Test recall, however, may not be far away for the Mumbaikar.

As per a report in The Mumbai Mirror, Rohit is well in line to be selected in the Test squad for the Australia tour. As per the report, the reason why can he make a comeback is because of his ability to play well in the bouncy tracks. One of the issues that can really see Rohit not making it to the Test squad is the fact that he hasn’t played any first-class cricket since January this year. His last first-class game, a Test match against South Africa, remains to be the last red-ball game that he has played this year.

Surprisingly, Sharma wasn’t named in India A team for the home series against South Africa A and Australia A as well, which gave an indication that his Test career is over but he seems to be in line to be given another chance.

Rohit had made his Test comeback last year for the tour of Sri Lanka, where he replaced Karun Nair. After sitting out on the tour, he played his first game against the Islanders in the home series where performed brilliantly as he scored 217 runs in just 3 innings and went to South Africa, where he got dropped from the playing XI for the final Test after failing in the first two match.

The elegant Mumbai batsman lost his position in the Test squad to Karun Nair for the one-off Test against Afghanistan and wasn’t included in the side for England tour as well, where Nair retained his place. Both the players aren’t a part of the squad for series against West Indies that starts Thursday.
