Rohit Sharma had a heart-in-mouth moment early in his innings during Mumbai Indians’ clash against Rajasthan Royals on May 1 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The MI opener narrowly escaped dismissal after taking a DRS review just in time, resulting in a priceless reaction that summed up his relief.

Batting first after RR won the toss, Rohit opened with Ryan Rickelton but looked far from his fluent best. Struggling to find rhythm against the swing and pace of Jofra Archer and Fazalhaq Farooqi, he appeared tentative and watchful. His stay at the crease was nearly cut short in just the second over.

Facing a sharp delivery from Farooqi, Rohit played across the line and was struck flush on the back leg. The appeal was immediate, and the umpire raised his finger. Rohit looked resigned to his fate, appearing ready to walk off. However, after a brief discussion with Rickelton—and with the timer almost running out—he reluctantly opted for the review.

As the crowd held its breath, the ball-tracking replay revealed that the ball had pitched marginally outside leg stump. The decision was overturned, and Rohit couldn’t contain his emotions. With a wide grin and a loud “yeah!”, he burst into laughter, clearly aware of how close he’d come to an early exit.
