The Indian opener, Rohit Sharma, who is also the captain of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Mumbai Indians (MI), holds the record of the highest individual score in ODIs. However, the MI has recently claimed to have found a better replacement for their skipper in the form of Abhinav Singh of Rizvi Springfield school. The youngster slammed as many as 265 runs on Day 1 of the MI Inter-School Cricket Tournament and it is better than Rohit’s highest ODI score of 264, which he scored against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014, by a run.

Rohit is currently playing for India in a limited-over series against Australia at home. He was not playing in what would have been his 300th T20 game as Shikhar Dhawan replaced him for the second T20I against Australia in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Rohit, who is also the world’s highest run-scorer in T20Is, scored only five runs in the first match in Visakhapatnam that India lost by 3 wickets.

Regarding the same, the Mumbai base franchise tweeted about Singh to tease Rohit saying they have got somebody who has bettered his top score of 264. The photo accompanying the tweet showed the kid standing with a raised bat and helmet to receive the acknowledgment for his feat.

Here is Mumbai Indians’ tweet:

The three-time IPL champions are currently organizing the inaugural school cricket tournament to provide a platform to the young and aspiring cricketers from Mumbai which has traditionally given India top cricketers over the years from a very young level. The tournament has two categories – Under-14 boys (40 overs) and Under-16 girls (20 overs).

The winners of the tournament will get an opportunity to train with the support staff of the MI that includes the likes of head coach Mahela Jayawardene, batting coach Robin Singh, bowling coach Shane Bond, and others. Over 50 schools, 1,000 players are taking part in the competition. This year, the MI will play their first match of the IPL against Delhi Capitals at home on March 24.
