Rajasthan Royals have brushed aside concerns over Shimron Hetmyer’s slow start ahead of their IPL 2026 clash against Mumbai Indians, with the team management firmly backing the West Indies finisher to deliver when it matters. Despite limited returns so far, the Royals remain confident in the strength and experience of their middle order.

Hetmyer arrived in IPL 2026 on the back of an outstanding T20 World Cup campaign, where he scored 248 runs at a blistering strike rate of 186.47. However, that form hasn’t translated into immediate success in the league, largely because Rajasthan’s top order has done the heavy lifting. Openers Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal, along with Dhruv Jurel, have consistently provided strong starts, reducing the pressure on the middle order.

“We don’t have any concerns about Hetmyer or Riyan’s form. We can’t get too worried about such things. We are in a good space,” performance coach Siddhartha Lahiri said during the pre-match press conference.

“We’ve worked with them in certain areas, and I’m glad Dhruv is doing really well. Riyan is also batting well but has been a bit unlucky. It’s only been two games,” he added.

So far, Rajasthan’s middle order, including Hetmyer and captain Riyan Parag, hasn’t had many opportunities to make a significant impact. But as the tournament progresses, their role is expected to become more crucial, especially in tight finishes and high-pressure chases.

The upcoming clash against Mumbai Indians presents a stern test. With a bowling attack featuring Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, supported by quality spin options, MI have the tools to challenge even the most in-form batting line-ups.

For Hetmyer, this fixture could be the perfect platform to regain rhythm and confidence. Given his proven track record as a match-winner, Rajasthan Royals will be hoping it’s only a matter of time before he produces a decisive innings in IPL 2026.
