In the Saturday’s game, the Bangladesh pacer used some foul words in the 28th over of the second innings when the young Caribbean batsman Shimron Hetmyer edged for a boundary. Stump mic picked those words and Hossain received one demerit point as he breached the Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct.

The ICC release claimed, “Rubel was found to have breached Article 2.1.4 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to ‘using language or a gesture that is obscene, offensive or insulting during an International Match’.”

There is no need for a formal hearing as the Bangladeshi pacer has admitted the offence and accepted the penalty.

Adding this one demerit point, Hossain has now two demerit points. The first one was handed during the second T20I between Afghanistan and Bangladesh in early June at Dehradun, India. In that game, Hossain violated the Article 2.1.5 of the ICC Code of Conduct that relates to, “showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during an international match”.

In the next 24 months, if Hossain achieves a total of four demerit points, he can face a ban of one Test or two limited-overs games.
