Chennai Super Kings produced a polished all-round performance at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, defeating Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in their IPL 2026 clash. Chasing 156, CSK got over the line in 17.3 overs, with Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma staying unbeaten on 87 and 41 respectively to script a comfortable finish.

The win carried added value for Chennai’s playoff push. CSK had begun the season with defeats to Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru, but the side responded strongly with back-to-back wins over Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders. A setback against Sunrisers Hyderabad followed, before Chennai regained momentum with a double over Mumbai Indians and a victory against Gujarat Titans.
The latest result took CSK to 10 points from 10 matches, while Delhi remained two points behind in seventh place. After the match, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad spoke about the team’s growing rhythm and how confidence in the dressing room had helped turn the season around.

“I think even initially after the second and third game, the talk was about Fleming and myself, we were always positive,” he said. “We thought that we were closer than what we thought than or what we were last year. I think we pretty much covered all the bases, what we had, Sanju coming in and then we had great middle-order as well.”

He added, “Our bowling was going good as well. So we just needed that couple of wins and then to get that momentum, you need that in T20 cricket. So I think after that, after the third game, we got those couple of wins and then, everyone just started to gel together.”
Delhi Capitals, meanwhile, once again failed to build a strong total after choosing to bat first. Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for 19 by Mukesh Choudhary, while KL Rahul fell for 12 to Akeal Hussain. Noor Ahmad then tightened CSK’s grip with two quick wickets, removing Karun Nair for 13 and Nitish Rana for 15. Axar Patel’s lean run continued as he was dismissed for 2 by Gurjapneet, leaving DC on the back foot.

Tristan Stubbs tried to steady the innings with 38, while Sameer Rizvi, against his former team, held firm with an unbeaten 40. Their efforts took Delhi to 155/7, but it was never quite enough on a ground where CSK’s batting depth looked far more settled.
In reply, Chennai lost Gaikwad early for 6 to Lungisani Ngidi, but the chase barely slowed. Urvil Patel added a quick 17 off 9 balls before Samson took charge with a fluent, controlled knock. Kartik Sharma, fresh from a fifty in the previous game, gave him ideal support as the pair added an unbroken 114-run stand to finish the contest with ease.
