The Indian wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav received a snub from the second Test match against Bangladesh despite the fact that he scalped 8 wickets in the opening game of the series. Kuldeep, who has been in and out of the Test team won the player of the match award in the last Test for his stellar show with the bat and the ball. Kuldeep although was dropped for an extra fast bowler in the Mirpur Test and it irked the fans of Indian cricket on social media.
Speaking about India’s decision to drop Yadav for the game Jaydev Unadkat, former selector Saba Karim has opined that the decision was made after seeing how the track played in the ODI series.
During a chat with India News, Saba Karim said, “I think India have played with three seamers owing to the nature of the pitch, like in ODIs.”
However, Saba Karim expressed his displeasure with the management for choosing to drop Kuldeep on a pitch where Ravichandran Ashwin picked up four wickets in the first innings.
Saba Karim elaborated, “Why will you drop a good player who is in form? What was the need to play an extra seamer? R Ashwin took four wickets, which means it’s a surface where a bowler like Kuldeep would have benefitted.”
He further added, “There is no doubt that Ravichandran Ashwin and Axar Patel are your top two quality spinners. Axar Patel’s track record has been phenomenal, especially how he got wickets. You can’t bench him. So, I think Kuldeep Yadav will have to wait for his chances.”
India managed to restrict Bangladesh to a below-par score of 227 runs in the first innings and then remained at 19/0 when play was stopped for poor light.
