Mumbai Indians (MI) is witnessing a rough patch in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 as they have failed to register a win in both of their encounters so far. The five-time champions finished last on the points table in 2022 and are desperate to turn their fortune in the ongoing season. Ahead of their next game against Delhi Capitals on April 11 at the Arun Jaitely Stadium, legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has given some valuable advice to all-rounder Cameron Green.
Green was bought for a whopping INR 17.50 crore by Mumbai Indians at the IPL mini-auction held in December 2022. However, the 23-year-old has failed to justify his price tag, as he only managed to register the scores of 5 and 12 to his name in the first couple of matches. With the ball, he has picked up just one wicket and given away 50 runs in five overs.

In a video posted by Mumbai Indians on their social media handles, Green could be seen having a discussion with Tendulkar. During a media interaction, Green explained that Tendulkar suggested he keep the bat face slightly closed in red-ball cricket to keep the ball on the ground and open it up in white-ball cricket to access balls on the off-side.
As per the quotes in News18, “Obviously, whenever Sachin talks, you listen. He was talking about maybe in red-ball cricket, the bat is a slightly closed face to keep balls on the ground but in a white ball potentially opening up the face of the bat helps you to access balls on the offside and maybe the trajectory as well. So that was the talk.”
In the first two games, the Australian international has batted at number three for MI. However, he had great success opening the innings for Australia in the three-match T20I series in 2022 held in India. On being asked whether he will be coming out to open for MI, Green said that he’s happy to bat anywhere.
Cameron Green epxlained, “I’m absolutely happy to bat wherever the coach wants me to. I am absolutely happy to bat at three – you actually feel like an opener anyway. You have the same intent than probably when opening the bat and when coming at no. 3. So absolutely no stress with batting wherever.”

In the 2022 T20I series held in India, Cameron Green was the leading run-scorer, scoring 118 runs in three innings at an average of 39.33 and a strike rate of 214.54, with two half-centuries to his name. After failing to win the first couple of games, Green would look to put up an outstanding performance in the upcoming matches to bring MI’s campaign back on track.
