England all-rounder Sam Curran has returned to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after being picked up by the franchise at the IPL mega auction last year. Curran previously represented CSK during the 2020 and 2021 seasons before moving to Punjab Kings. Having shared the dressing room with the iconic MS Dhoni, Curran is full of admiration for the former CSK skipper, particularly impressed by his approachable nature and unmatched calmness.

Recalling a memorable practice session, Sam Curran shared, “The other night, I was batting with MS and Jadeja (Ravindra Jadeja) at 11:30 in the evening. The lights were on, and we were just smacking balls everywhere. I thought, where else in the world would you do this? All the local players were just sitting there, watching MS. It’s the aura of the guy. He’s so easy to chat with, and I think his calmness, especially in big moments, is remarkable. He never seems to panic.”

Sam Curran shared these thoughts during a conversation with Nasser Hussain on Sky Cricket. Curran also revealed a lesser-known side of Dhoni — his open-door policy at the team hotel.

“Even now, the guys talk about how he leaves his room door open. Players drop in to play FIFA with him, chat about cricket, and just hang out. He can’t leave the hotel much because he gets absolutely mobbed, but he’s always there for the team,” Sam Curran added.

MS Dhoni’s legacy as a leader is unparalleled. With three ICC white-ball trophies under his belt as India’s captain and five IPL titles for CSK, his influence extends beyond the field. Although he stepped down from CSK’s captaincy before last season, passing the torch to Ruturaj Gaikwad, his presence remains a guiding force.

Retained as an uncapped player for ₹4 crore after a new IPL rule was introduced, Dhoni continues to be a pillar of CSK’s setup, despite retiring from international cricket in 2020. Sam Curran’s anecdotes provide a glimpse into Dhoni’s magnetic persona — a leader who commands respect yet remains grounded and approachable, leaving an indelible impact on every player he shares a space with.
