Sandeep Lamichhane To Play CPL For St. Kitts

The young legspinner from Nepal Sandeep Lamichhane has been picked up by Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. He is looking forward to using his experience IPL 2018 and makes the most of the opportunity at the franchise where he’ll get to play Windies players like Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis. He got the limelight after being bagged by DD at the mega-auction earlier this year, also recently made his T20I debut with the ICC XI in the charity match against the Windies.

As quoted in CPL’s official website, Sandeep said, “I used to follow CPL from the beginning and I’ve been selected for St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. It’s a big achievement for me, and again a good challenge for me ahead. I hope I’ll make it count, to play with big names, Chris Gayle, Evin Lewis, it will be a good booster for me.”

The leggie’s IPL journey has been memorable despite his franchise having had to endure a rocky time this season. Although Lamichhane’s time came only after DD’s chances of reaching the playoffs were diminished. He still impressed with five wickets from three matches at an economy rate of 6.83. His short stint invited praises from his head coach at the IPL, Ricky Ponting.

Talking about his IPL stint, Sandeep said, “It’s always good playing with some legends, playing with big names. It is a big achievement for me and for Nepal cricketers. I’m just looking forward to keeping remaining [at this level]. Playing three matches [at the IPL], it gave me a lot of good confidence and I hope I will continue on the same form.”

Last month, Nepal got the ODI status and the country is currently enjoying their best time in cricket. Talking about the same, he said, “We are growing the game in every part of Nepal. We’ve secured ODI status for four years. We are looking forward to making an impact on the international arena so that we can be in the Test playing nation very soon.”

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who finished runners-up, will play their first game of the season against Guyana Amazon Warriors on August 9.
