As India prepares for the third and final ODI against England in Ahmedabad, former batting coach Sanjay Bangar has suggested that the team management stick with the same playing XI. Despite already sealing the series with a victory in Cuttack, Bangar believes maintaining stability is more beneficial than experimenting with new faces like Rishabh Pant or Arshdeep Singh.

India’s series-clinching win in Cuttack was largely driven by Rohit Sharma’s magnificent century and a composed 60 from Shubman Gill. With the last ODI effectively a dead rubber, there has been speculation about testing the bench strength, especially with the Champions Trophy around the corner. However, speaking to JioCinema, Bangar emphasized the importance of consistency in team selection.

“I don’t think Yashasvi Jaiswal necessarily needs to play. If you want, you could consider Arshdeep Singh or Rishabh Pant, but with only one match left, continuity is key. KL Rahul hasn’t had extended time at the crease—he often comes in when there are only a few runs left—but his wicketkeeping has been solid, so it might be best to continue backing him,” Sanjay Bangar noted.

The question of whether to introduce Arshdeep arises mainly due to Mohammad Shami’s recent performances. While Shami has been effective, he hasn’t quite displayed his usual sharpness. Bangar acknowledged that giving Arshdeep some game time before the Champions Trophy could be considered, but he leaned towards keeping the existing bowling unit intact for another game.

KL Rahul’s form is another topic of debate. While he has done well behind the stumps, he hasn’t had a major batting performance in the series. Some have suggested that this could be an opportunity for Pant to get a game, but Bangar believes that a sudden change might disrupt the team’s rhythm.

With the Champions Trophy approaching, India will want to fine-tune their ideal combination. Bangar’s stance on stability reflects a long-term approach, ensuring that the team remains settled and prepared for the challenges ahead.
