Virat Kohli has often been regarded as India’s most successful Test captain and he left the cricketing fraternity surprised after resigning from the captaincy. He has a phenomenal record in Tests. Despite this, former India cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar doesn’t consider Virat Kohli belongs to the list of great captains and he has a pretty solid reason for it.
Sanjay Manjrekar said that Mahendra Singh Dhoni should be kept at the top of the list of great captains of India. Talking about the most successful captains of Team India so far, Manjrekar said that Kapil Dev helped India overcome their inferiority complex, while Sourav Ganguly led the team brilliantly after match-fixing. Manjrekar also praised Sunil Gavaskar and said that this cricketer was a better leader than Virat Kohli.

While giving an interview to a TV channel, Sanjay Manjrekar was asked about the great players who captained India. To which Manjrekar said, “When we talk about the greatest players of all time, it would be very unfair not to count Dhoni in it.”
He further added, “Kapil Dev at a time when there was inferiority complex at the world level. After the match-fixing round, Sourav Ganguly gave India some overseas victories. Sunil Gavaskar too. So these are all great leaders. These are people who I believe have been a better captain than Virat Kohli, who has been very good in their own right.”
Apart from that, Sanjay Manjrekar was seen showering praises at the attitude of Virat Kohli as captain. Referring to the final of the World Test Championship, Manjrekar said that even though Team India lost the final, the spirit of fighting till the end came from Virat Kohli.

Elaborating the same, Sanjay Manjrekar said, “When you look at Kohli, there are a lot of things to like about him because he is someone who leads by example, he has kept India’s morale high. That’s what you get with Virat Kohli, the never give up attitude. India lost in the final of the World Test Championship, but till the last minute, through Virat Kohli, India were struggling to save the game. But in the end, you have to talk about the results. The results were not coming.”
