Sanju Samson gave India an explosive start in the fourth T20I against the West Indies in Hyderabad on Wednesday, October 14. Chasing a massive target of 248 runs, the wicketkeeper-batter smashed a half-century off just 20 balls before departing for 56 from 23 deliveries, with India reaching 60 runs in the fifth over.

Samson made his intentions clear from the outset, opening his account with a boundary off Roston Chase. He continued to attack the West Indies spinner, capitalising on the favourable matchup against the right-handed batter. Samson took Chase apart in the third over, collecting 25 runs to propel India past the 50-run mark.

Samson also targeted Shamar Joseph, hitting consecutive sixes to reach another significant milestone in his T20I career. With those maximums, he completed 100 sixes in T20I cricket, joining an elite group of Indian batters to achieve the feat.
The Chennai Super Kings star became the sixth Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in T20Is, joining Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya and Virat Kohli.

Samson’s quickfire innings provided India with the ideal platform to chase down the West Indies’ imposing total of 247/3. Earlier, Shai Hope’s unbeaten 102 off 50 balls had powered the visitors to a massive score, supported by Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 49 and Shimron Hetmyer’s rapid 33.
With India’s bowlers having struggled to contain the West Indies batting lineup, Samson’s explosive start offered the hosts renewed hope in a challenging run chase.
