The young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson isn’t thinking about the selection in the Indian senior squad as it had started affecting his game. He is currently playing for who India ‘A’ in the ongoing Quadrangular Series featuring India ‘B’, Australia ‘A’ and South Africa ‘A’ and after having a decent outing in the last seasons of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and Ranji Trophy, he was expected to come good this time as well. However, he is still not been considered by the Indian selectors for the national squad.
Sanju has amassed just 68 runs and took five catches in the three games he played for India ‘A’ in the series so far. His meager scores have resulted in his team getting out of contention for the finals and now they will be locking horns with Australia ‘A’ for deciding the third-place on Wednesday, August 29.
However, talking about his chances of making it to the senior squad, as quoted in Manorama Online, Samson said, “I have stopped thinking about selection because when you think about it, your mind is not in the match and you are not in the right frame of mind. If you perform well, you are almost there. If I have a good season, there might be a chance.”

But Samson also focussed on enjoying each and every game he has featured in, which also helps him to keep doing well as a batsman and wicketkeeper.
Sanju Samson has played one T20I for India against Zimbabwe in Harare in 2015 in which he scored 19 runs. Apart from that in the domestic level, he has played 44 first-class games, scoring 2,602 runs at an average of 38.26. He has hit nine centuries and seven fifties while taking 61 catches and affecting five stumpings behind the wickets FC games he has played.
In recent times, Samson has been facing some stiff competition from Rishabh Pant to secure his place in the national squad as the latter has recently made his Test debut against England at Trent Bridge and impressed one and all with his skills. Pant is known to be flamboyant while batting which will make him become the first priority for the selectors for selecting a gloveman in the limited-over formats, especially after the retirement of the legend like MS Dhoni.
