Sanju Samson Recalled How People Used Taunt His Parents During Early Days

Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper, Sanju Samson recently recalled that his father used to work as a constable at Delhi Police during his younger days. The whole family stayed in Delhi, where Samson and his brother played a lot of cricket at the school level. In the latest interaction, He shared the stories of his childhood and revealed his parents’ struggle to shape his career. He also reminisced how his father took a bold decision to shift their base to Kerala and asked them to play for the state.

Sanju Samson on ‘Breakfast with Champions’

During a recent chat with Gaurav Kapur on his show Breakfast with Champions, Sanju Samson said, “In Delhi, there were many cricketers at every corner of the city. My brother and I gave trials on a couple of occasions but failed to get selected. Then my father said we are from Kerala, and you should play from there only. Suddenly in one month’s time, we shifted to Trivandrum, Kerala.”

Sanju Samson further revealed that when he didn’t play club cricket for a couple of years, after shifting to Kerala, his father decided to take voluntary retirement from Delhi Police and moved to Kerala with the family. He then added it was a challenging phase of his life for his family when his father used to take him to practice on a two-wheeler.

He explained, “After a couple of years, where I didn’t play anything, he took the voluntary retirement from Delhi Police and moved to Kerala. He then would take us to practice in the day and evening in a two-wheeler, and it was a challenging phase.”

Sanju Samson asserted that his parents took a bold decision of shifting their base to Kerala, in order to help him become a cricketer. In the end, he recalled a story that when he and his brother used to play cricket in their younger days, their parents would carry the kit bags to the bus, and people would crack a joke about them becoming the next Tendulkar.

Sanju Samson explained, “At that time, our father and mother didn’t make us realize that we are struggling for you. When you are mature enough and understand a lot of things about different situations in the family. When we were playing in Delhi, my mother and father would take our kitbags to the bus, as it was heavy, and the voices from the back would erupt, “Sachin aur uske Papa mummy ja rahe hai Bhai’, yeh banega Tendulkar’.”
