A major security scare rocked the IPL 2026 season at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, just hours before the high-profile clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans on April 24. In a shocking breach, two individuals were arrested for allegedly sabotaging the venue’s surveillance system, raising serious questions about match-day security protocols.

According to multiple reports, over 240 CCTV cameras were rendered inoperable after critical infrastructure, including Network Video Recorder (NVR) units and fibre-optic cables, was deliberately damaged. This created a massive blind spot across key areas of the stadium, including entry gates, concourses, and premium corporate stands—zones that are typically under strict monitoring during IPL fixtures.

The accused, identified as Manjunath (37) from Chitradurga and Abdul Kalam (19) from Uttar Pradesh, were working under a subcontractor linked to IVS Digital Solutions. As per a complaint filed by an employee of Staqu Technologies Pvt Ltd, the duo allegedly used a deactivated access card to enter the CCTV control room before damaging sensitive equipment.

Investigators later confirmed that CCTV footage captured them entering restricted zones and tampering with the systems. Preliminary findings suggest a financial dispute may have triggered the act, with the accused reportedly upset over unpaid dues of nearly ₹10 lakh.

Despite the scale of the breach, authorities responded quickly, restoring surveillance through backup systems to ensure the match proceeded without disruption.

A formal case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing to assess accountability and prevent future lapses. This incident has once again highlighted vulnerabilities in operational security at one of the IPL’s busiest venues, especially following previous concerns like ticket black-marketing and crowd management issues.
