Ahead of the second Test of the 3-match series between,  India and Sri Lanka, former India opener Virender Sehwag said the Indian pacers can make the most of the green top in Nagpur. India’s fast bowlers can make the most of the wicket as it can help them prepare for the Proteas tour.

During a chat with India TV during “Cricket Ki Baat” show, Viru said, “That time Australia was considered as one of the best teams and whatever the conditions were in Nagpur, we had to play accordingly to that. Now the green top can help the Indian batsman counter the Sri Lankan bowlers. It was players like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly that played well on a turning track such as the one in Nagpur”.

Virat Kohli and his man can do a better job in Nagpur as the pacers like Mohammed Shami can make the ball swing on a green top. Sehwag also praised Chesteswar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane as he reckons that their names aren’t mentioned the most but their inputs are highly important. he said, “Pujara is the most important person in the team and can play on any condition. Seaming, swing and turning, Pujara can handle and play with ease on these conditions. Rahane plays well outside and has scored many runs. These two names aren’t taken the most but do play an important role”.

India’s bowlers are currently one of the most fearsome in the longest format and Sehwag has compared the current pacers to the likes of Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan, Ashish Nehra and Ajit Agarkar who were considered to take wickets on any conditions. He said, “Srinath, Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra, Ajit Agarkar. These bowlers were one of the best bowling attacks as they managed to bowl well on a turning track.”

India will lock horns with Sri Lanka in the 2nd Test in the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on November 24.
