It has been almost four years since Bhuvneshwar Kumar last wore the India jersey, but the veteran seamer has once again pushed his name into the national selection conversation. The 36-year-old produced a superb IPL 2026 campaign for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, finishing with 28 wickets and playing a key role in their title defence. He ended just one wicket behind Purple Cap winner Kagiso Rabada, a strong reminder that he still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

Bhuvneshwar’s performances were so impressive that even Sachin Tendulkar took notice. The legendary batter shared a detailed video breaking down how the fast bowler used a wobbly seam to trouble opponents and create consistent movement off the pitch. For a bowler who built his reputation on control, subtle variations and late swing, the praise carried real weight.
The 28 wickets also marked Bhuvneshwar’s best in a single IPL season, naturally reigniting discussion about a possible India comeback. Even so, the experienced pacer has chosen not to fuel speculation. He made it clear that the decision rests entirely with the selectors and that his focus remains on doing his job well rather than chasing headlines.

“It’s my nature that I don’t want to show that I want to play,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar told The Indian Express. “I think everyone is doing their job. Selectors are doing their job. I’m doing my job. It’s their responsibility to select. If they think I’m good enough, they will do their job.”
Despite being understated about his chances, Bhuvneshwar spoke with clear pride about representing India. He said that playing for the country is always special and that he considers himself lucky to have enjoyed an international career across all three formats.

“I have played, I have done what I had to do. If I hadn’t played, I would have been dying to be asked to play a match. I think it’s a big thing to play for India, I won’t say it’s a small thing, I’m one of the lucky ones that I have played,” he said.
Bhuvneshwar’s international journey began in unforgettable fashion. On his India debut, he dismissed Mohammad Hafeez with the very first ball of his career, producing a delivery that swung sharply back in and shattered the stumps. Reflecting on that moment, he admitted that he has rarely seen the ball move as much as it did that day.

Having already taken 294 international wickets, Bhuvneshwar remains one of India’s most experienced white-ball and red-ball operators. If his IPL form is any indication, the conversation around his return is unlikely to fade anytime soon.
