Shafali Verma Shares Her Excitement For Women’s T20 Challenge

On Tuesday, the fiery Indian opener, Shafali Verma has gone on to express the excitement for playing in the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge. Her remark comes after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the Women’s T20 Challenge will be taking place in the UAE.

Shafali, who is the youngest player ever (female or male) to feature in the World Cup finals, said that she is looking forward to meeting all her teammates. Tweeting about the same, she wrote: “Very excited to once again play in the upcoming Women’s T20 Challenge. Plus looking forward to meeting all my teammates after a while”.

On Sunday, the BCCI had confirmed that Women’s T20 Challenge will be taking place in the UAE and will comprise of three teams with four matches to be played during the IPL Playoff week. Indian women cricketers have applauded BCCI President Sourav Ganguly’s announcement that the Women’s IPL will be taking place during the men’s event in the UAE

Mithali Raj, who only plays ODIs, last played in November. With the tour of England in canceled, it seemed the Indian cricketers wouldn’t be getting game time before the ODI World Cup in February-March. However, Ganguly’s announcement on Sunday has eased some concerns.

Welcoming the announcement, Mithali tweeted: “This is excellent news. Our ODI World Cup campaign to finally kick start. A big thank you to @SGanguly99 @BCCI @JayShah and thank you @BoriaMajumdar for your support to women’s cricket”.

Senior Indian spinner Poonam Yadav wrote: “Good news! Thank you @SGanguly99 and the BCCI.”

The four-team Women’s IPL can be expected to take place between November 1-10 while the Big Bash is scheduled from October 17 to November 29. The BCCI’s decision seems to be left the foreign players miffed especially Australia’s Alyssa Healy and New Zealand veteran Suzie Bates.
