Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan is on the verge to join an elite list ahead of the first One-Day International match between South Africa and Bangladesh. He is 17 runs away from becoming the fifth player in the history of ODI to achieve a double of 5,000 runs and 200 scalps.

Shakib has named 4,983 runs and 224 wickets in 177 ODI matches so far. Apart from him, only Sanath Jayasuriya, Shahid Afridi, Jacques Kallis and Abdul Razzak are in this list. Also, he will become the second Bangladeshi player after Tamim Iqbal to notch up over 5,000 ODI run mark.

The five-match ODI series between two teams will kick off from October 15. Earlier, South Africa demolished visiting Bangla tigers by 2-0 in the Test series. However, Bangladesh will try to turn things around soon and the arrival of Shakib will also boost their confidence, who has taken a break from Test cricket.

The 30-year-old is currently the top-ranked all-rounder in all three formats and also the only player in the top five.
