The star Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has returned home from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) due to a finger injury and will miss Friday’s Asia Cup final against India in Dubai, as reported by one of the team officials. He also missed Wednesday’s virtual semifinal against Pakistan after he complained of some severe pain in an injured finger. Bangladesh beat Pakistan by 37 runs to move to the final of the Asia Cup for the third time in the last four editions.

A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official confirmed Shakib arrived in Dhaka at midnight on Wednesday. He hurt his left little finger during the One-Day International (ODI) series against Sri Lanka in January and missed the subsequent Test and Twenty20 series. He returned to the team for the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka in March and has continued playing since then.

Shakib wanted to have a surgery before the Asia Cup for a complete recovery from the injury, but the BCB insisted on him playing in the Asia Cup. He did some rehabilitation in Thailand and Australia but the pain resurfaced during the Twenty20 series in the West Indies and the United States, where he played the last two matches with painkillers. The all-rounder played the team’s first four matches of the tournament. He scored 49 runs and picked up seven wickets as well.

Meanwhile, BCB insiders mentioned that Shakib is set to fly to the USA to get his finger operated in the immediate future, although the date hasn’t been finalized yet.
