The All-India Women’s Selection Committee on Wednesday, December 28, named Team India’s squad for the upcoming tri-series in South Africa and also for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023. The tri-series will be played in January and the World Cup will begin on February 10. Meanwhile, seam-bowling all-rounder Shikha Pandey has returned to the squad and has been added to the side for both tournaments.
However, all-rounder Pooja Vastrakar’s participation in both tournaments is subject to fitness as well. She was not a part of the team that was named to play against Australia during the recently concluded five-match T20I series at home. Notably, India had a poor series against the Aussies at home as they faced defeat by a margin of 4-1 in the five-match T20I series played in Mumbai recently. India could only win the second T20I after it went into a super over.

Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team on both occasions and Smriti Mandhana will be her deputy as well. In order to prepare themselves before the global T20 event the Indian team will square off against hosts South Africa and the West Indies in the upcoming tri-series as well. The tri-series will begin on January 19 at Buffalo Park in East London.
