Shikhar Dhawan Wasn’t Unhappy After Being Snubbed From T20 WC Squad

The veteran Indian opener, Shikhar Dhawan has been one of the key batters for Team India over the years. He holds significant milestones in ODIs and T20Is as well. Dhawan has cemented his place in the ODI setup. However, the Southpaw was dropped from the Indian squad for the T20 World Cup 2021.

There has been no clarity over him being dropped from the marquee event. Ishan Kishan, the young Indian left-hander was given preference over him. The 36-year-old is currently plying his trade for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. He has managed to impress the fans with some crucial knocks. He has managed to score 421 runs in the span of just 13 outings.

Meanwhile, Shikhar Dhawan has opened up about his exclusion from the marquee ICC event in a long interaction with NDTV sports. He went on to reveal that his future plans with Indian cricket.

During a recent chat with NDTV, Shikhar Dhawan said, “For the T20 world cup, they thought the (chosen) players were better than me and fair enough. Whatever decision selectors make, I respect that. That happens in life. You accept it and keep doing your job. I only focus on what is in my control and try to make the most of the opportunities that I get.”

He further added, “I am playing for the next three years at least. I have been batting quite well for the past few years, I am hopeful and positive that the way I am performing, there are many milestones to achieve, My focus is about the journey and not the destination, it is more about how I am refining myself as a cricketer and how consistently am I performing and as a leader, how am I growing.”

It is understood that the Indian selectors are keen to have Dhawan on board as the skipper in the upcoming T20 series against South Africa. The series will not feature some of the main players from the Indian team in order to manage their workload.
