In the high-octane clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in IPL 2025, Shreyas Iyer’s men held their nerve to chase down a stiff 191-run target with just two balls to spare. The game, though thrilling, was also marred by some questionable moments in the field, particularly involving CSK’s Shivam Dube.

After being asked to bat first, CSK managed a respectable 190 on the board, thanks to a blazing 88 off 47 balls from Sam Curran and a useful hand from Dewald Brevis. But with momentum on their side, PBKS came out firing with Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh adding 44 runs for the opening stand, setting the tone for a spirited chase.

However, all eyes were on Shivam Dube during a bizarre sequence in the field that left fans baffled and teammates visibly frustrated. During Ravindra Jadeja’s over, PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer lofted the ball to deep mid-wicket. Dube, stationed on the boundary, made a lacklustre attempt to cut it off and casually signalled that it had gone for six. The umpire referred it upstairs, and replays confirmed it was only a four, adding fuel to the criticism Dube has faced this season.

The drama didn’t end there. Moments later, MS Dhoni appeared annoyed when Shivam Dube, placed inside the circle, reacted late to a run-out opportunity, failing to release the ball on time. The visibly frustrated CSK skipper’s reaction said it all.

Dube’s poor form has only intensified the scrutiny. With just 248 runs in 10 innings, including a lone half-century, and another unimpressive 6-run outing in this game, questions around his spot in the XI are growing louder. PBKS eventually sealed the win, handing CSK a defeat despite their strong first-innings total.
